Sean is a 50 year old father of two wonderful kids and married to Gina, a firefighter/paramedic with San Francisco Fire Department. Sean was a police officer in the UK for 14 years before meeting Gina at a surf kayak event at Santa Cruz in 2006.
He moved from the UK to California to be with Gina and founded River and Ocean, a Sales and Customer Service Agency within the watersports industry and has represented such established lines as Valley Sea Kayaks, Kokatat Watersports Wear, Pyranha, P&H Sea Kayaks and Jackson Kayak. Sean’s focus now is on paddlesports coaching and spending more time at home with Gina and their kids.
Sean believes that hard work produces results. He was a member of the British Kayak Racing Team for over 10 years.
In 2004 he completed a childhood dream by completing the first solo circumnavigation of the UK and Ireland. This six month, 4,500 mile journey is the longest kayak journey ever undertaken in British waters and the first ever to include all of the inhabited islands.
Featured as one of Canoe & Kayak Magazine’s Heroes, Sean has had articles published in Canoeist, Sea Kayaker, Wavelength and Canoe & Kayak, Ocean Paddler and The Paddler magazines. Considered one of the world’s leading ocean paddlers, he enjoys nothing more than sharing his passion for the ocean with others, through his writing and teaching.
Sean’s record breaking days are over but he still loves to explore and surf and share his passion for all paddlesports with others. In 2009, together with Matt Palmariello and Jen Kleck he created the Golden Gate Sea Kayak Symposium, now known by the name Paddle Golden Gate.
Sean was Program Director for California Canoe & Kayak from 2014 -2016. He continues to teach for CCK and has taught at a number of kayak symposia in Europe and North America.
Sean is an ACA L5 Advanced Open Water Coastal Kayak Instructor, Level 4 Open Water Coastal Kayak Instructor Trainer, L3 Surf Kayak Instructor and L2 SUP Instructor.
Developing new paddlers and paddlesports instructors is Sean’s passion. Sean provides personal coaching in sea kayaking, surf ski racing, kayak surfing and SUP. He is available to train and motivate your staff in retail sales, guiding and instructor certification.
