Yellow Bluff Tide Race Clinic
April 23 @ 12:00 pm - 4:30 pm
WHO: This clinic is led by Sean Finigan and Mike Kowalsky. It is intended for sea kayakers with previous rough water experience who are looking to further develop their skills in dynamic moving water.
Prerequisites: L4 Tidal Currents and Rough Water or equivalent experience strongly recommended. Students should have good bracing skills and be comfortable with wet exits, as well as self and assisted rescues. A combat roll is NOT required.
WHAT: In this half day clinic at Yellow Bluff, students will get the opportunity to hone dynamic and moving water paddling skills in one of the fastest tide races in the Bay. Starting when the current is relatively modest, participants will get an opportunity to gradually work with faster current, and rougher more dynamic water as the current builds. At Yellow Bluff, we can fine tune techniques used in fast current such as peel outs, ferry gliding, and catching eddies, as well as surfing waves that form in the race. Students who are interested will also have opportunities to practice rolling and rescues in the dynamic water. This is an excellent opportunity to push your limits with a strong safety net. Activities will be tailored to the interests of the participants! The central objective of the clinic is to best meet YOUR personal learning goals.
Cost: $99.00 (Minimum Enrollment: 2; Maximum Enrollment: 8)
WHERE: We meet at and launch from the public boat ramp, opposite the Coast Guard Station in Horseshoe Cove, Fort Baker, Sommerville Rd, Sausalito.
