Bodega Bash 2018

Event Details

Come join members of the West Coast tribe for a celebration of kayak surfing!  Surf specific kayaks, waveskis, whitewater kayaks and sea kayaks welcome.  Bodega Bash is open to all levels.  Bring your friends and family to share in the fun!
All events will be held at Dillon Beach.  If conditions are not appropriate at Dillon Beach, an alternative break (Bolinas or Salmon Creek) may be selected for surfing; however, camping will remain at Lawson’s Landing.  The organizers plan to arrive Friday night and camp until Sunday.


Campsite Information and Reservations

Lawson’s Landing begins taking reservations 11 weeks out – reservations are now open!  Most festivities will occur on Saturday and Sunday, but please feel free to come early and stay late.  To reserve a site, visit the Lawson’s Landing website.


Free Surf

Saturday and Sunday, from sun up to sun down, we will be surfing our hearts out at Dillon Beach.  It is a free surf so we are welcoming all paddlers of all levels to catch waves and have fun!



Sea Kayak Surfing – Saturday
Dillon Beach is one of the best sea kayak surfing locations on the west coast! You should be a competent paddler with surf zone experience (launching and landing) have solid bracing skills, and at minimum a developing roll. We will discuss safety considerations, review some skills on the beach, and spend the majority of the time surfing the multitude of breaks that the area has to offer. We will give you feedback on your surfing, and will practice specific techniques to improve your control on the wave and ability to exit the wave with grace. The clinic will be taught by Jennifer Yearley.
You will need to supply your own boat* and kit including a PFD and helmet.

*A limited number of Valley Sea Kayaks are available to demo for this class if reserved in advance.


Introduction to Kayak Surfing – Saturday

Interested in learning to kayak surf? This clinic will cover fundamental skills, surf zone safety and etiquette. Some paddling experience necessary. Dagger Kaos kayaks will be generously provided by Kayak Connection. If you need to borrow a kayak, you must indicate this when registering for the clinic. You are still required to supply your own personal kit including a wetsuit or drysuit, PFD, helmet, and paddle.

The Intro to Kayak Surfing Class will be led by Laura Zulliger.

International Class Kayak Surfing – Saturday

International Class (IC) surf kayaks are 3m (118″) or longer and without fins. To surf these kayaks well requires specific skills that will be addressed in this class led by guest
instructor Dan Crandall of Current Adventures whose tail slashes, off the lips and roundhouse cutbacks are among the best in the world.
You will need to bring your own kayak and personal kit including a wetsuit or drysuit, PFD, and helmet.

High Performance Kayak Surfing – Sunday

Want to take your surfing to the next level?  During this clinic, your instructors will demonstrate and coach you in techniques such as the take-off, bottom turn, cutbacks and re-entries.  Participants in this clinic should have solid paddling skills and a reliable combat roll in surf. This clinic will be led by Kelly Marie Henry, assisted by Sean Morley.
You will need to supply your own boat* and kit including a PFD and helmet.

Saturday Night Potluck BBQ and Bonfire

Join us Saturday night for a potluck BBQ and bonfire at the Lawson’s Landing campground.  We ask that all guests bring a dish that can feed 8-10 people.  Please RSVP by September 21 with Sophia (sophias0422@gmail.com) or sign up here to reserve your spot at the potluck.  Don’t forget to let her know what you’re bringing!
We are looking for:
  • Main Dishes/Meat (Please come prepared to cook it yourself.)
  • Sides Dishes
  • Salads
  • Snacks/Munchies
  • Dessert
  • Non-alcoholic beverages
  • Wood for the campfire
Alcohol is permitted in the campground and will be BYOB.


Performance Paddlesports will have a selection of Mega Performance Surf Kayaks and Valley Sea Kayaks to demo including:
  • Mega Sweet Kahuna (sit-on-top) waveski
  • Mega Vamp, Banshee, Halo, Edge, Missile surf kayaks
  • Valley Storm (RM) surf kayak
  • Valley Gemini and Sirona sea kayaks

Additional Information

Dillon Beach is situated at the southern end of Bodega Bay in northern Marin County.  This picturesque beach break is a favorite spot for paddle surfers due to the lack of crowds and relatively moderate conditions.
